600+
Knox County residents have signed our petition

When we launched the Knox County Coalition for Safe Solar Practices, we didn't know how our neighbors would respond. Would people care about solar ordinance details? Would they take time to sign a petition? Would they show up to meetings? The answer has been a resounding yes—and we're deeply grateful.

A Grassroots Movement

This coalition started with a handful of neighbors concerned about proposed solar projects near their homes. As we began researching Knox County's solar ordinance and comparing it to other counties, we realized these weren't just individual property concerns—they were community-wide gaps in protection that affected everyone.

Word spread through social media, conversations at local businesses, and neighbors talking to neighbors. What emerged wasn't organized by politicians or funded by special interests—it's genuinely grassroots, driven by Knox County residents who love this community and want to preserve its character.

What 600+ Signatures Mean

Six hundred signatures represent more than just names on a petition. Each signature represents:

In a county our size, 600+ signatures is significant. It demonstrates that these concerns aren't fringe or isolated—they're widespread and legitimate. County commissioners can't dismiss this level of engagement as a vocal minority.

Who We Are

Our coalition includes:

✓ Important Clarification

We're not anti-solar or anti-renewable energy. We support responsible solar development with proper community protections. Our petition asks for ordinance standards that 73 other Indiana counties have already adopted—we're not requesting anything radical.

What We've Accomplished

Beyond petition signatures, our coalition has achieved significant milestones:

Research and Documentation

We've conducted comprehensive research comparing Knox County's ordinance to surrounding counties, analyzed solar lease agreements, documented safety concerns with battery storage, and compiled data on property value impacts and decommissioning inadequacies.

Public Awareness

Through social media, website resources, and community outreach, we've educated Knox County residents about ordinance gaps and proposed improvements. Many people who signed the petition didn't initially understand the issues—now they're informed advocates.

Official Engagement

We've submitted formal documentation to county commissioners, attended planning commission meetings, filed public records requests, and established ourselves as a credible voice in solar development discussions.

Community Building

Perhaps most importantly, we've connected neighbors who didn't know they shared concerns. We've built networks for sharing information, supporting each other, and collectively advocating for our community.

The Road Ahead

Reaching 600 signatures is a milestone, but it's not the finish line. The upcoming commissioners meeting will be crucial, but regardless of the outcome, we're committed to continued advocacy. This might be a long process, and we're prepared for the sustained effort required.
